Flute Adventures 2020

FLUTE ADVENTURES is proud to host the innovative composer/flutist NICOLE CHAMBERLAIN.  Ms. Chamberlain will present a masterclass, discuss how she develops ideas and creates her award-winning compositions and will coach our campers for the WORLD PREMIERE performance of her newest flute choir work especially written for FLUTE ADVENTURES!

FLUTE ADVENTURES is an opportunity for flutists to enjoy a non-competitive environment to learn new skills, participate in flute ensembles and make new friends.  All campers will receive a "Flute Adventures" T-shirt.

FLUTE ADVENTURES consists of two camps running concurrently.

   Junior Camp - for entering grades 6-8*

   Senior Camp - for entering 9th grade and up

SPECIAL CAMP EVENTS

Monday - DeKalb Municipal Band rehearsal

Wednesday - Grant Park Symphony concert

Thursday event - evening movie at the Roxy Cinema.

Friday event - Camp recital with all campers and Nicole Chamberlain at 5:30pm

HOUSING

Out-of-Town campers will be placed with local campers at no additional charge.  Local campers who host out-of-town campers will receive a $50 reduction in camp tuition.

CANCELLATIONS

Notice of cancellation of a student's participation must be received by May 15, 2019 in order to receive a full refund of tuition paid, minus a $50 deposit.  NO REFUNDS after May 25, 2020.

Nicole Chamberlain (b. 1977) is a composer and flutist living in Atlanta, GA. In 2010, Nicole won "Audience Favorite" at the Atlanta Opera's first 24-Hour Opera Project for her opera "Scrub-A-Dub Raw" which resulted in the the Atlanta Opera's first ever commission of the children's opera, "Rabbit Tales", which received over 50 performances and kicked started her career as a composer. Nicole has also been commissioned by groups such as the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, Cuatro Puntos, Dahlia Flute Duo, Clibber the Jones Ensemble, and Hopewell Middle School Symphonic Band among others. In 2013, Perimeter Flutes commissioned Nicole to compose "French Quarter" which will had its premiere at the National Flute Association Convention in New Orleans, LA. She also won the 2013 Areon Flutes International Composition Competition which she was awarded a commission. Nicole received her Bachelors in Music Composition from University of Georgia where she studied with Dr. William Davis, Dr. Leonard Ball, Dr. Lewis Nielson and Dr. Roger Vogel and was selected for masterclasses with Charles Wuorinen and Joan Tower. Nicole, as a flutist, has appeared with such groups as Georgia Symphony Orchestra, duoATL, Mercury Season, Terminus Ensemble, Chamber Cartel, Perimeter Flutes, Gwinnett Ballet Orchestra, neoPhonia, Bent Frequency, Capitol City Opera, and Orchestra Atlanta. Nicole has participated in Masterclasses with Bradly Garner, Paul Edmund-Davies and Dr.Gordon Cole. Nicole's former flute teachers have included Donna Orbavich (Hong Kong Symphony), Lisa Wienhold (Alabama Symphony), Dr. Ronald Waln (University of Georgia) and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's principal flutist, Christina Smith. Currently she balances her time composing, teaching students, performing, and avoiding graphic design work as much as possible. FLUTE INSTRUCTORS

Cindi Isenhower, Camp Coordinator, Senior Camp Instructor

Mrs. Isenhower is a graduate of Indiana University with bachelor degrees in Flute Performance and Arts Administration.  She is a frequent judge for ILMEA and IHSA events and has taught privately for over 35 years.  Cindi also arranges music for flute ensembles and has several published arrangements.  She currently plays 2nd flute/piccolo in the Kishwaukee Symphony.  Cindi has a private flute studio in Ottawa where she lives with her husband and 3 cats.

Lisa Eaton, Junior Camp Instructor

Mrs. Eaton is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Music Education anda graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Master's degree in Education Administration.  She has taught Music Education at all levels for the past 25 years.  In 2016, Lisa was awarded "Music Educator of the Year" by the Rockford Symphony.  She is an active adjudicator and clinician in the area and resides in Oregon, IL with her husband Matt and their cat.

Adrienne Havelka, Assistant Instructor

Ms. Havelka has completed 3 1/2 years as a Music Education major at Colorado University - Boulder.  She plans to teach Elementary Music upon graduation.
